NEARLY 25% NATURAL GAS REDUCTION POTENTIAL IDENTIFIED – ADVANCED HEAT RECOVERY ANALYSIS WITHIN LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH NESTLÉ

As part of its long-term decarbonization roadmap, Nestlé continued its collaboration with Anytherm through a comprehensive heat recovery analysis at a major food production site in Northern Europe.

The objective was to systematically evaluate cross-departmental heat integration potential across processes, utilities and existing recovery systems – independent of specific equipment solutions.

Building on a long-standing collaboration, Anytherm applied a structured pinch-based methodology to identify how waste heat streams from various processes – including existing exhaust air heat recovery systems – could be optimally integrated at site level.

The focus of the study was not limited to individual units, but to maximize overall site efficiency through process-overarching optimization.

Key results:

  • Over 20 GWh per year total energy savings potential
  • Nearly 25% reduction in natural gas consumption
  • Significant yearly energy cost savings
  • Over 3’500 tons of CO₂ reduction per year

This corresponds to the annual emissions of up to 1’000 passenger cars per year.

The study demonstrates how product-independent, systematic heat integration strategies can unlock substantial decarbonization potential — even at industrial sites that already operate at a high technical standard.

The analysis now serves as a strategic decision basis for further implementation and supports Nestlé’s pathway towards Net Zero.
