ANYTHERM CONTRIBUTES EXPERT INSIGHTS ON AIR DEHUMIDIFICATION AND HEAT RECOVERY IN SPRAY DRYING

Anytherm recently participated in the Lübbers spray drying seminar in Erfurt, Germany, contributing an expert presentation on air dehumidification and heat recovery in industrial drying processes.

Presented by Gabriel Kägi and Benedikt von Manitius, the contribution marked Anytherm’s third consecutive presentation at the seminar. The focus was on practical approaches for process air treatment in spray drying applications — from fresh air intake and dehumidification to exhaust air heat recovery and system integration.

“It was a valuable exchange for everyone involved — and definitely something we are happy to contribute to again,” says Gabriel Kägi.

Air dehumidification: condensation or adsorption?
One part of the presentation looked at air dehumidification and the differences between condensation-based and adsorption-based technologies. In spray drying and other drying processes, dehumidification can help stabilise process conditions, support consistent powder quality and maintain production performance even under changing seasonal air conditions.

This topic was also recently covered in more detail in our latest blog article on condensation vs. adsorption-based air dehumidification.

Heat recovery: from exhaust air to energy savings
The second focus was heat recovery in spray drying applications. With long operating hours and high energy demand, drying processes offer significant potential for reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Anytherm presented practical ways to integrate heat recovery into process air systems, including multi-stage concepts, different heat exchanger types and the importance of cleaning-in-place solutions in exhaust air applications.

Beyond individual components, the key message was clear: successful energy optimisation requires a system-wide view — from process requirements and operating conditions to integration, cleaning, pressure losses and economic feasibility.

Technical exchange with industry specialists
The seminar brought together plant operators, planners and technology specialists from across the spray drying field. Discussions around process stability, drying performance, air leakage, energy efficiency and practical implementation once again showed how relevant these topics are for modern drying operations. Many thanks to Lübbers for the excellent organisation and the opportunity to contribute to the technical programme.
